Title: Playboy's Vargas Girls, published by Playboy, 1972. VF/NM 9.0 condition.

Please note - we are not professional graders! Always look closely at the pics to determine the condition. All comics sold as is and will be shipped to you in thick cardboard with "do not bend" written on the outside so your book gets to you safely!

OK...we are not graders, but we slap a 9.0 grade without a guarantee on this issue?

Vintage Playboy?
Date added: Jul 11, 2019

Just to remind the mindless sellers/sheep. There is absolutely NOTHING VINTAGE about a 1990-2000 era Playboy. Not a fucking thing!

An item should be at least 100 years old to be defined as an antique. Generally speaking if the item is no older than an antique but not less than 20 years, it falls under the term vintage. I have heard the term 'true vintage' as being at least 50 years old

Collector Condition?
Date added: Jul 11, 2019
Let's get something straight. My brother is a mechanic. He is good at what he does. I can't change a spark plug or a taillight. I can program and code a full website, and I can accurately depict a collectible Playboy. How in the world can a vintage Playboy be in COLLECTIBLE CONDITION and be held together with scotch tape. These garage sale sellers need to take a break. STICK TO WHAT YOU KNOW and try not to embellish something ypu have no idea what you are talking about.

A Funny Story......
Date added: Jun 22, 2019

While searching for an issue for a friend, I was looking ONLY for "FACTORY SEALED" New Issues. I did not have this particular issue, and he is wary of buying stuff online, so I do it for him.

Here is my warning from my extensive search. To the best of my knowledge, Playboy (as publisher) did not utilize seal wrap until the late 1980's for Newsstand Sales. When they did, the generally has some promotional wording on it either across the bottom or top. This was true particularly with SPECIALS. The did this because (I was told) they would put those annoying stickers on the covers, which were hard to remove cleanly. Playboy responded by sealing them and putting promtional materials on the factory sealed portion.

So, to continue with the fascination of this story, I bought one issue listed as factory sealed/new. It was anything but. It was wrapped in freaking Saran Wrap and (as best I could tell) shrunk with a blow dryer (it actually stuck to the back cover). WOW!!!!!

Another one I ran across as "Factory Sealed" actually had an AUTOGRAPH ON THE COVER!  I contacted the seller who had no explanation and refused to remove the factory sealed line even though it had been obviously opened and handled. He said it "was still in the factory seal!". Help me understand this.

Some people are evn listing issues put in protective sleeves as "Sealed".....be careful people

Why Oh Why?
Date added: Jun 20, 2019

There are a couple of disturbing trends appearing lately on some of the auction/sales sites.

It seems that the term "Mint and Near Mint" are being tossed about with abandon. Uneducated sellers list as Near Mint without so much as even a second thought. Any WHY don't these people take a second to remove the issue from its protective sleeve. You can make your own judgement, but I suspect it is to obfuscate the actual detailed condition of the issue. Only a few sellers (who were collectors) ever seem to shoot detailed pictures of the magazines they are selling.

The older, vintage issues should ALWAYS have closeups of the corners and staples at a minimum. These morons shoot a picture and conveniently crop off the edges and top and bottoms of the cover....

Just a reminder, a Near Mint copy should not have spine fray or a bent/dog-eared corner A Mint (9.9) copy of almost any year is as rare as a Marilyn Monroe signed Number 1 Issue. The ONLY issues I have ever seen with a Mint (9.9) or Germ Mint (10.0) are a couple of reprint issues of Number 1. There are a few other random issues throughout the CGC census, but they rarely come to market.

So, just watch what you are buying. A Seller should send you additional pictures if requested. If they said they are photos taken from the web or stock photos, move on......90% of the issues for sale on Ebay/Etsy and a few auction sites (that are a bit exaggerated in their descriptions) are overrated for the collector looking for quality issues.

Private Collector
Date added: Jun 16, 2019

WTF is a PRIVATE COLLECTOR?

One of the newer approaches to selling back issues of Playboy has been the sellers that use the term "From a private collection" that implies that it MUST be in pristine condition. My first question would be, "Is there a difference between a collector and a private collector?" I suppose it must mean that the owner is a very private person maybe....but, isn't every collection a private collection? It must be mint if its from a private collector.

Well, surprise....surprise.....I have walked away from quite a few "Private" collections because they were not worth buying. Oh....maybe those were not private collections.....they must have been public collections with public collectors.....

My point is that be aware that a "PRIVATE COLLECTOR" does not guarantee quality.

Another WTF moment.....

LISTING:

PLAYBOY MAGAZINES -- 1974 -- 11 ISSUES FEB-DEC

All in nice condition. See Pic of November's Spine. (pics show spine is terrible but "ALL" in nice condition?)

A couple of centerfolds may be lose but almost all are tight...an oxymoron? so which is it? LOOSE (lose) or ALL Tight?

100% Positive Feedback - Non Smoking Home (Who gives a fuck? You Bought at Garage Sale, not your home!)

I give up.....

August 1993 ......The Beat Goes On......
Date added: May 21, 2019
Unbelievably, the listings for the "Most Valuable Playboy" are increasing. As bewildering as that is, I even see some are being sold? Read this Closely(although I believe that is an error with the seller ending the listing to give the impression it has sold, then they relist the same magazine higher). There are astonishingly Over 26 listed today that are asking over 2000.00. Please don't fall for this scam. The rumors are simply not true. The magazine never sold for 5-7K, the ARTWORK and ORIGINAL TYPESET PAGE sold for that....not a magazine....
